Miss Having Company Over? Join Artists for a “Sunset Reading” and an Evening of Erotic Poetry

Around this time every year, I usually start to feel a weird mix of restlessness and longing — for more sun, warmer weather, and most importantly, beach days with friends. Under the current circumstances, during which I’ve mainly been enjoying longer daylight hours at home, those pangs have started to feel a bit more urgent.

Enter Hayden Dunham. On March 31, the bi-coastal performance artist will be hosting a “sunset reading and activation” focused on her recent work, as part of Company Gallery’s new series of virtual talks, performances, and readings, via  Instagram Live. If next week’s event is anything like Dunham’s last performance with Katerina Llanes, IN: the serpent :TO (read “into the serpent”), expect an ethereal, ecologically focused evening designed to help participants regenerate (please, god). Based on the West Coast these days, Dunham will kick things off at 10:14 pm EST, for all you New Yorkers who may have missed the sunset due to binge-watching.

Looking for more art to fill your days in the meantime? Have no fear. On March 26, “In Company With” will also feature an evening of poetry curated by performer and poet LA Warman, cheekily titled “Home-O-Erotic” (6 pm), featuring work from Cole Lu, Gabrielle Rucker, Kelly Xio, and Taylor Johnson. On March 27, sculptor and performance artist Raúl de Nieves (whom you might remember for his standout installation at the 2017 Whitney Biennial) will present an evening of storytelling starting at 6 pm. Additional events will feature fellow Company artists Jonathan Lyndon Chase (March 28) and Precious Okoyomon (TBD), among others.

When: Featured events start March 26, with additional events taking place throughout this week and next.
Where: Virtually, via Company Gallery.
